How to use your calendar
- Open Edit settings on a phone or tablet. Choose the parent who starts the first three-night block.
- Enter the Monday on which that block begins and the calendar year to show.
- Enter parent names, colours and the agreed local handover time. Initials or A and B are enough if you prefer.
- Check the calendar against your agreement. The first three nights, next four nights, next four and final three repeat every fortnight.
- Save on this device, share the settings, print the year or download both parents in one calendar file or either parent separately. Share links contain the names entered.

With A first, Parent A has Monday to Wednesday in the first week, Parent B Thursday to Sunday, Parent A Monday to Thursday in the next week and Parent B Friday to Sunday. Choosing B first swaps the roles. Each complete cycle gives seven nights to each parent.
The first Monday anchors the sequence. Each following calendar date advances one position. Dates before that start stay blank. Annual percentages divide each parent's assigned nights by all scheduled nights in the selected year; a partial year need not be exactly 50% each.
A calendar date identifies that night's parent. The handover time is the local clock time at the start and end of the parent's block, and appears in the exported continuous event. It does not change the overnight count. Blocks crossing New Year preserve their actual start and end handovers.
Calendar exports use floating local times. Check the time zone and imported dates in your calendar app, especially when travelling. Download both parents in one calendar file, or each parent separately. Repeated imports may create duplicates; use separate calendars for individual files if you want to distinguish or remove them.
This tool illustrates an agreed repeating pattern. It does not decide what suits a child, apply school-holiday changes or replace a parenting agreement or court order. Check holidays and other exceptions separately and speak to a family lawyer before acting.
Worked example
Start Monday, 4 January 2027, with Parent A first:
- Parent A has 4 to 6 January, Parent B 7 to 10 January, Parent A 11 to 14 January and Parent B 15 to 17 January.
- Thursday, 14 January belongs to Parent A. Sunday, 17 January belongs to Parent B.
- The complete cycle has seven nights each: 50% for each parent. The first three days of January stay blank.
- In 2027, Parent A has 182 nights and Parent B 180: 50.3% and 49.7% of the 362 scheduled nights.
Common questions
What is the 3-4-4-3 schedule?
One parent has three nights, the other has four, the first has four, then the second has three. The 14-night sequence repeats, giving seven nights to each parent in a complete cycle.
Why must the start date be a Monday?
This dedicated tool anchors the first three-night block to Monday through Wednesday, as specified. If your agreement starts on another weekday or uses a different sequence, use the editable custody schedule maker.
Can Parent B start the pattern?
Yes. Choose Parent B as the parent starting the first block. The sequence swaps A and B, while each complete cycle still contains seven nights per parent.
Why can the annual split differ from 50%?
A calendar year may start or finish partway through a cycle. Dates before your starting Monday are blank. Annual percentages cover only nights assigned in that year; the complete 14-night cycle remains equal.
What does the handover time change?
It sets the local start and end time of each continuous parenting block in the calendar file. It is also shown above the calendar. The parent assigned to each overnight date and the night counts stay the same.
Are school holidays and legal arrangements included?
No. This calendar repeats the entered arrangement without holiday overrides. Check exceptions against your agreement or order and seek advice from a family lawyer when needed.
