Public holiday coverage
New South Wales: 2027 and 2028. Checked 13 October 2026.
Standard statewide or territory-wide holidays for New South Wales. Actual calendar dates and substitute, additional or part-day holidays are labelled separately.
- Local show days, municipal substitutions and bank-only holidays are not included. Confirm your school dates separately.
- 2028 standard dates follow the official recurring rules checked on 13 October 2026; newly declared one-off holidays are not predicted.
Markers do not change which parent receives a date.

How to split your school breaks
- Open Edit holiday settings. Select your state or territory. Read its supported years and local exclusions before using the public holiday markers.
- Enter the first and last dates of each school break. Both dates are included; use the dates from your school.
- Choose halves, alternate years or set days. For halves and alternate years, choose who goes first in odd years; the other parent goes first in even years.
- For set days, add parent date ranges covering every day of the break once, without gaps or overlaps.
- Check the allocation summary, browse one week at a time and read the holiday coverage notes. Save, share, print or export both parents in one calendar file or either parent separately.
How it works
Breaks use inclusive calendar dates. A break from 18 December to 2 January includes both 18 December and 2 January. The planner counts calendar dates, not legal parenting-time percentages or overnight stays.
Halves gives the first parent half the dates, rounded up when the total is odd. The second parent receives the remaining dates. A one-day break therefore belongs to the first parent. With alternate years, the whole break belongs to the selected year's parent. The year in which the break starts decides odd or even ownership, including a break ending the following year.
Set days lets you enter specific first and last dates for each parent. Every date must be assigned once. Adjacent ranges for the same parent are combined in the output and calendar export. Breaks cannot overlap because that could assign a date twice.
Public holidays are reference markers, not changes to your allocation. Actual calendar dates, published observed dates, additional holidays and part-day holidays are labelled separately. Regional coverage and supported years are shown beside the result. Missing holiday data is identified explicitly; an unmarked date outside coverage does not mean there is no holiday.
School holidays are entered by you and are not inferred from public holidays. Official holiday data is stored with this site and does not update live. Check the source dates and your school's calendar before relying on a plan.
Calendar downloads contain all-day blocks for both parents or the chosen parent, with the end date set to the day after the last included date. No handover time is assumed. The planner does not replace an agreement, court order or legal advice, and does not merge these allocations into a repeating custody calendar.
Australian lists cover statewide or territory-wide public holidays. Most cover 2027 and 2028; Western Australia currently covers 2027 only. Local show days, municipal holidays and bank-only closures can be excluded. Read the selected region notes, including the recurring-rule basis for NSW and ACT 2028 dates.
An additional public holiday is a separate marker from the actual date. In New South Wales in 2027, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are 25 and 26 December, with additional public holidays on 27 and 28 December. Other states and territories can have different rules. Part-day markers do not establish whether a whole shift overlaps the holiday.
Worked example
Australia: select New South Wales and enter the NSW Eastern division public-school summer holiday range, 21 December 2027 to 28 January 2028. Choose halves and Parent A first in odd years. Check your school and any development days separately:
- The entered range contains 39 calendar dates. Parent A receives the first 20: 21 December to 9 January.
- Parent B receives the remaining 19: 10 to 28 January.
- Christmas, Boxing Day, their NSW additional holidays and New Year's Day fall in A's block. Australia Day on 26 January falls in B's block. These markers do not change the allocation, and the NSW range is not an Australia-wide school calendar.
Common questions
Does this tool provide my school's holiday dates?
No. Enter the first and last dates from your own school's calendar. Public holiday markers do not identify all school closures.
Who gets the extra day when a break has an odd number of days?
For halves, the parent who goes first receives the extra calendar date. You can choose another allocation with set days if your agreement requires it.
Which year decides a Christmas break crossing New Year?
The year in which the break starts decides odd or even ownership. A break starting in December 2027 uses the odd-year choice even if it ends in January 2028.
Do public holidays override the split?
No. They are reference markers only. Your entered split remains in place. Check your agreement or order and speak to a family lawyer if you are unsure.
Why might a holiday be unmarked?
Most Australian regions have stored 2027 and 2028 data; Western Australia has 2027 only. Check the selected state or territory source for unsupported years and excluded local holidays. An empty list outside coverage is not a no-holiday result.
What is stored or shared?
Save keeps this tool's settings in this browser. A share link includes parent names, colours, region and break dates. Anyone with the link can read them, so use initials if you prefer. Delete removes the saved copy on this device, not files or links you already exported.
