How to check holiday shift dates
- Select your state or territory. Read its supported years and local exclusions before using the public holiday markers.
- Choose a preset or enter your repeating day codes: D day, N night, M morning, E afternoon and O off.
- Set the common start date and the year to check. Dates before the start have no schedule.
- Add up to six crews and set each offset in calendar days. Check the offset against your official rota.
- Read actual and observed markers separately, including the source and coverage notes. On a phone, choose a month to view.
- Save on this device, share the settings or print the complete holiday list and coverage notes.
How it works
For each stored holiday date, the checker uses the same repeating-pattern engine as the shift calendar. Each crew's position is (date minus start date minus crew offset) modulo cycle length. Dates before the common start remain blank for every crew.
A work code means that a shift starts on that calendar date in the entered pattern. O means off. The checker does not compare clock-time intervals, so it cannot decide whether an overnight shift starting the previous day overlaps a holiday. It does not determine holiday pay, entitlement or whether you must attend work.
Data is stored with the site and does not update live. Supported years and regional limitations are shown with the result. An unsupported year produces a warning; an empty list outside coverage is not evidence that no holidays exist. Local, employer and school calendars can differ.
Marker totals count stored rows where a crew has a work code. They can include an actual and an observed date for the same holiday, or two holiday records on one date. These are marker counts, not a count of holiday entitlements or unique shifts.
Share links include crew names, colours, the pattern, start, offsets, year and region. Use non-identifying names if needed. Saving is limited to this browser and country page; deletion does not remove exported or printed copies.
Australian lists cover statewide or territory-wide public holidays. Most cover 2027 and 2028; Western Australia currently covers 2027 only. Local show days, municipal holidays and bank-only closures can be excluded. Read the selected region notes, including the recurring-rule basis for NSW and ACT 2028 dates.
An additional public holiday is a separate marker from the actual date. In New South Wales in 2027, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are 25 and 26 December, with additional public holidays on 27 and 28 December. Other states and territories can have different rules. Part-day markers do not establish whether a whole shift overlaps the holiday.
Worked example
Choose New South Wales, a 4 on 4 off pattern and Crew A with start date 3 January 2027, offset 0. Crew A is off on Christmas Day, 25 December, Boxing Day, 26 December, and the additional public holidays on 27 and 28 December. These additional dates remain separate rows; select another state or territory to check its own list.
Common questions
Does Works mean my whole shift overlaps the holiday?
No. It means a shift starts on the stored holiday date in your repeating pattern. Overnight overlap and part-day holiday hours are not calculated.
Why do actual and observed dates appear separately?
They can be different dates with different shift results. The label and notes distinguish each stored marker; confirm which date applies to your workplace.
Does this calculate holiday pay or entitlement?
No. A marker does not determine eligibility, compensation or a day off. Check the official source and your employer or HR team.
Why is my year unavailable?
Most Australian regions have stored 2027 and 2028 data; Western Australia has 2027 only. Check the selected state or territory source for unsupported years and excluded local holidays. An empty list outside coverage is not a no-holiday result.
Why are there additional or part-day public holiday markers?
An additional public holiday is a separate marker from the actual date. In New South Wales in 2027, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are 25 and 26 December, with additional public holidays on 27 and 28 December. Other states and territories can have different rules. Part-day markers do not establish whether a whole shift overlaps the holiday.
What is included when I print?
Printing includes every stored holiday record in the selected year, all crew statuses, pattern settings, regional scope, limitations, source links and checked dates. A phone's selected month does not limit the printout.
